Madrid - Mikel Landa was included in Spain's initial squad for the cycling world championships, announced on Tuesday.

Landa missed out on the Tour of Spain after crashing at the Clasica San Sebastian last month and suffering facial injuries.

He is being given the chance to declare himself available for the world championships, however, which begin in Austria at the end of the month.

Movistar's 38-year-old veteran Alejandro Valverde is among the 13-strong group, which also includes Enric Mas (Quick-Step), Jonathan Castroviejo (Sky), Ion Izagirre (Bahrain-Merida), Jesus Herrada (Cofidis), Pello Bilbao (Astana), David de la Cruz (Sky), Mikel Nieve (Mitchelton-Scott), Marc Soler (Movistar), Omar Fraile (Astana), Lluis Mas (Caja Rural) and Ruben Fernandez (Movistar).

The riders will meet for a training camp in Sierra Nevada from September 21 to 17, according to a statement from the Spanish Federation (RFEC).
