Twitter fury at George doping

Cape Town - Top South African cyclist David George's admission to having taken performance enhancing drugs has been met with fury on Twitter.

Tour de France stage winner Robbie Hunter posted: 15 year time bomb just went bang....

Hunter, in an interview with Darren Scott, called George "stupid" and highlighted a previous incident when George was warned regarding the use of EPO.

Three-time Absa Cape Epic and Olympic medal winner, Switzerland's Christoph Sauser, responded to Hunter by saying: haha very well said! wish that guy never turned to mtb - in reference to George's change in recent years from road cyclist to mountain biker.

SA cycling star Daryl Impey added: There's many of us paying the price for these clowns. Life time bans plus financial pay-backs to sponsors.

Well known SA presenter Sasha Martinengo tweeted: If any sportsperson is caught using drugs then they should be banned for life. No matter F1, table tennis or hand ball, to which SA's top mountain biker and multiple Cape Epic winner, Burry Stander, replied: Amen before adding people wont have any faith in us clean riders because of these assholes.

SA's world downhill mountain bike champion, Greg Minnaar, also voiced his anger, writing: David George you idiot.... Who's next???” time will tell I guess... I don't even know why I'm disappointed in David George's positive test, it was only a matter of time.... You can only dodge so many bullets, before concluding with - while pictured enjoying a well-deserved beer - Killer riding today in Italy, I much prefer dopping to doping ay Dave ???

SA actress and Cape Epic rider Vanessa Haywood, added: This is a very sad day for South African mountain biking.... I am very disappointed. :-(

Haywood's boyfriend, SA trail runner extraordinaire, Ryan Sandes, expressed his sadness for George's long-time Nedbank 360Life partner Kevin Evans, tweeting: Too sad for Kevin Evans!

Evans has yet to respond on Twitter.

George's sponsors Nedbank and USN were quick to suspend the team and cut all ties with the disgraced 36-year-old former Olympian and Lance Armstrong team-mate.

Skaam is weg! You shame not only yourself, your parents, your family, your friends, but us, the people of SA. Hope you are banned for life and have to repay every cent of sponsorship money you've ever received. My sympathy to those who love you and were most likely so proud of you. Siesa.

All these cyclists, with all their high tech alloy bikes etc. I have a 1000cc engine in my bike, so much easier, avoids the need to have to take EPO and steroids etc. Plus I dont look like a tool in my matt-black helmet, like the cyclists do with theirs.

      trevor.toit - 2012-11-07 11:49

Your a tool!!! get off your FAT and see what it's really like to ride a bike.

You look like quite a tool right now, though.

I am actually slim and elegant. 0% body-fat, exquisite features, all just hangs off my cheek-bones actually.

Well, by the response of co-sportsman, it seems like he was an **s anyway. Geez, you're one sad case! Only thing I regret, is that you got away with it for so long, and kept an honest guy down fom making the team. A**hole!

And how much did Sascoc spend on this person, all the while that they could not afford to send the U19 Mens Softball team to the World Series, but they did chose a team and then break the hopes and dreams of all the young men.

Hope they punish this idiot to the fullest and make him repay everything he earned plus the interest Lets see if there are more like him and Armstrong and who made money out of being crooks?

To all the other cyclists condemning David George in the article above. Shouting louder and condemning the culprit does not make anybody less innocent if he has doped but not been caught yet. Are you sure you all are clean yourself? One of the side effects of EPO is acne, I see a lot of pimples on one of our TdF stage winners, another one rode with Armstrong, not on the US Postal or Discovery teams but Radioshack. Since Lance was only caught out through the testimonies of his former teammates, did you pick up how to cover up during the tests? Just questions that I ask myself.
