Cape Town - South Africa's Daryl Impey displayed fine form at the UCI Road World Championships when he bagged a silver medal with his Orica GreenEdge team in the team-time trial event on Sunday.
The team-trial event marked the start of the World Championships in Toscana, Italy.
"We are proud of what we did out on the road and it's easy to say now where we could have made up a second on the route, but the truth is we all gave our maximum and this time it just fell slightly short of the win," said Impey in his newsletter.
"This is my first World Championship medal.
"I have had a great season this year and I look forward to finishing it off in a good way in my final race for the year being the Road World Championships this Sunday with Team South Africa."
Impey took to Twitter to confirm his happiness.
Wow, boys were absolutely incredible today! We left it all out there and proud of our ride, disappointed as well as it was so close. 0.8sec
Hurts us but we can't fault ourselves. Omega rode a super race and congrats to them. Silver medal this year but still super happy.
