947 Cycle Challenge welcomes new sponsor

Cape Town - 947 has announced a new partnership with telecoms giant Telkom to host the 20th edition of the Cycle Challenge and to connect the city through this iconic Joburg event.

The Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge is Joburg’s biggest cycling event and thanks to Telkom, the official sponsor of speed, it will also be the fastest.

“The City of Joburg is one of the largest, busiest cities on the continent and the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge takes over this city for the day. We needed to find a partner with the power and pace to do this with us,” explained 947 station manager Ravi Naidoo.

“Telkom’s commitment to speed and connecting the city are wholly aligned with 947’s objectives and we believe this partnership can take the event to new levels for cyclists, supporters and residents.”

In January this year, Telkom announced that it would sponsor a new professional road and mountain bike cycling team in 2016. The fact that Team Telkom is involved in both road cycling and mountain biking is a first on the local cycling scene.

“We are proud to be associated with the 947 Cycle Challenge. In our fast-paced industry, speed and performance are defining features and at Telkom, we are able to offer the best of both. We are proud to be partnering with 947 and the people of Joburg to celebrate our great city and its fantastic people”, says Enzo Scarcella, chief marketing officer for Telkom.

Telkom will join 947 to also host the festival of cycling that has developed around the Cycle Challenge, with the Telkom 947 Mountain Bike Challenge, the Telkom 947 Kiddies Ride, the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge Expo and a Twitter Ride.

On Sunday, November 20 the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge will celebrate the 20th edition. Once again, over 30 000 cyclists will converge on Riversands Commercial Park which will host the start and finish.
