Cape Town - Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula is to lead a team of cyclists in the upcoming Cape Argus race to promote the message of anti-doping.
"I am very proud... that I am walking the talk and riding a bicycle," he told reporters in Cape Town on Wednesday.
"This is one important initiatives in the context of sport."
Mbalula would use the race to launch the 'I Play Fair' campaign to cyclists.
The campaign, spearheaded by the SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport, promotes ethical sport through hard work and perseverance rather than through supplement use.
The 24-member team will include Western Cape premier Helen Zille, former Springbok rugby player Chester Williams and former Proteas cricketer Makhaya Ntini.
Mbalula said the department and institute had a no tolerance attitude to doping in sport.
"... We want athletes to use their God-given natural abilities through hard work and commitment."
"Doping is the work of cheaters."
