Trott claims second world gold in London

London - Laura Trott won her second gold medal of the Track World Championships in London on Sunday with a dominant performance in the omnium, the event she won at the same venue at the 2012 Olympics.

The British rider, champion in the scratch race earlier in the week, started the second day of the six-discipline event tied with Sarah Hammer of the USA but third place finishes in both the 500 metre time-trial and flying lap built a commanding lead.

For good measure, Trott took the first sprint in the last of the six events, the points race, to further pad her lead ahead of second placed Laurie Berthon of France, who beat Hammer into bronze on the last sprint of the points race.
