Quintana signs new Movistar deal

Madrid - Fresh from winning the Vuelta a Espana, Nairo Quintana extended his deal with Spanish team Movistar until 2019, team director Eusebio Unzue confirmed on Monday.

Spanish veteran Alejandro Valverde is also close to agreeing a new contract with the team backed by telecommunications giants Telefonica.

"We have to announce the contract extension of Nairo until 2019 and that we are about to close the deal with Alejandro," said Unzue.

Victory in Madrid was Quintana's second Grand Tour victory with Movistar after claiming the Giro d'Italia in 2014.

The Colombian has also finished on the podium at the Tour de France three times in 2013, 2015 and 2016.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
