Foliforov triumphs at Giro d'Italia

Alpe di Siusi - Russia's Alexander Foliforov (Gazprom) snatched a dramatic victory in the 15th stage time trial of the Giro d'Italia on Sunday after finishing less than a second ahead of race leader Steven Kruijswijk.

Foliforov clocked a winning time of 28min 39sec for the stage win, with Dutchman Kruijswijk, who rode into the pink jersey on Saturday, in second after the tough 10.8 km uphill race against the clock.

It was a disastrous day for 2013 champion and pre-race favourite Vincenzo Nibali, who suffered a mechanical problem and a bike change on his way to seeing his 41sec overnight deficit grow to a massive 2min 51sec after he could only finish in 30:49.

Nibali has dropped to third overall with Colombian Esteban Chaves (Orica) moving up to second at 2:12 behind Lotto team leader Kruijswijk.
