Cavendish grabs Tour of Abu Dhabi lead

Abu Dhabi - Britain's Mark Cavendish sprinted to victory on the second stage of the Tour of Abu Dhabi on Friday, snatching the race leader's red jersey in the process.

Cavendish, second at the world championships in Doha last weekend, inherited the overall lead from Giacomo Nizzolo who is four seconds off the pace.

1. Mark Cavendish (GBR/Dimension Data) 2h32:21, 2. Elia Viviani (ITA) s.t., 3. Andrea Guardini (ITA) s.t., 4. Jakub Mareczko (ITA) s.t., 5. Jean-Pierre Drucker (LUX) s.t.

Overall standings:

1. Mark Cavendish (GBR/Dimension Data) 5hr 48min 06sec, 2. Giacomo Nizzolo (ITA) at 04sec, 3. Jens Keukeleire (BEL) 05, 4. Elia Viviani (ITA) 08, 5. John Degenkolb (GER) 08.
