Paris - Dutch rider Tom Dumoulin has won the first stage of the Tour of Switzerland, a 5.1km time trial around Risch-Rotkreuz on Saturday.
The Giant-Alpecin cyclist finished just ahead of favourite Fabian Cancellara, beating out the Swiss by two seconds.
24-year-old Dumoulin finished in 5 minutes and 41 seconds as he denied Cancellara an 11th career stage victory in the event.
The Trek Factory Racing cyclist was featuring in the Tour of Switzerland for a 13th consecutive year and he edged out Austrian Matthias Brandle, who finished third, four seconds behind the winner.
