Cape Town - Entries are open for the Columbia Grape Escape 3-day MTB stage race set to take place in the Boland from Thursday to Saturday, March 1-3, 2012.
Following the hugely successful inaugural stage event in 2011, riders are encouraged to secure their places early as entries are limited to 750 entrants.
The race is held over three days and will lead experienced mountain bikers through more than 200km of some of the most spectacular terrain in the Boland - including 4 600m of climbing.
David Bellairs, CEO of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust explains, “Following last year’s success and the feedback we received, we’ve kept the aspects of the event that appealed most to riders - including keeping the cost as low as possible by not offering a full service stage race but still keeping comfort levels high; and we’ve tweaked and improved on other aspects - like moving the race back by a day which allows competitive riders an opportunity to also participate in the ultra-distance of the Cape Argus Pick n Pay MTB challenge taking place at Boschendal on Sunday, March 4.”
The stage race will follow a new route in 2012, designed by well-known MTB trail enthusiast and guru, Meurant Botha. “Our aim for the 2012 race is to create a flowing, more technical route that incorporates the best features that the diverse terrain options present and appeals to the more serious social rider.”
