Brown wants another win

Johannesburg - In 2009 he won one of the most memorable Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tours ever and now Arran Brown is looking for victory number two.

Two years ago Brown out-sprinted Robert Hunter, for a big upset in very windy conditions, but he missed out on the opportunity to defend his title last year due to a knee injury.

"I was very disappointed last year when I couldn't race the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour. I had some good form coming out of the 2009 season when I had some good victories. I was so ready to defend my title, but I just had to accept that it wasn't meant to be," said Brown.

Along with the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour victory in 2009 Brown also won the Amashova and the 94.7. He was the first ever professional cyclist to complete the triple. Last season he won the Amashova again and got a second place in the 94.7.

What Brown wants most though is to win the Cycle Tour again.

"My preparation for the Cycle Tour has been great. I competed with the MTN-Qhubeka team in the Tour de Langkawi in Malaysia and the recent Tour of South Africa. I have also been doing lots of sprint training with the team over the last few weeks and I'm feeling confident seeing how well we are working together and how strong the team is," said Brown.

"Having experienced and powerful riders like Daryl Impey, Christoff van Heerden, Reinardt Janse van Rensburg, Brad Potgieter and Dennis van Niekerk is exciting. We will also have Petrus Loto and Martin Wesemann forming part of our eight man team for the \Cycle Tour. We have been working really hard as a team and the guys will have great form coming out of the Tour de Boland this week."

The Cycle Tour, with more than 35000 entries, is the biggest race in the country and one of the most prestigious.

"The Argus is a very important race for us locally as it is the biggest one day race on our calendar. It will be important to reward the Team and all our sponsors with a victory."

Windy conditions are once again predicted for the coming weekend. Although this might fill most competitors with some trepidation, Brown knows what he is capable of even when the wind blows at 55km/h.
