Cape Town - South Africa's Sports Minister Tokozile Xasa and High Commissioner to Australia Beryl Sisulu both wished Team South Africa well before the Commonwealth Games gets under way in Gold Coast.

According to Team SA, the two took time out to visit a cross-section of athletes at the international zone of the Commonwealth Games Village on Monday.

Team members from the athletics, bowls, boxing, cycling, hockey, swimming and netball codes were in attendance, along with SASCOC President Gideon Sam and Team SA Chef de Mission Ezera Tshabangu.

"Fly the South African flag high," said Sisulu.

"Back home our cricketers are making us proud and here the cameras are on you, so represent well.

"Make us proud and rest assured, we are here to support you as much as you need."

For her part, Sports Minister Xasa said: "I bring warm greetings from back home and from our president.

"We encourage you to shine, we are proud of you and please bring the medals back. Nothing can stop our country."

She also urged the country's sportsmen and women to be on their best behaviour.

"We need vigilance to be coming from our leaders. If there are any matters that need to be dealt with from our side, we will support you.

"You all just go and do your best."

The Games start with Wednesday's opening ceremony and continue through until the closing ceremony on April 15.
