Cape Town - South Africa's Ayrton Sweeney failed to reach a podium position in the men's 400m individual medley final at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Swimming in lane 5, Sweeney finished in fourth place clocking a time of 4:17.79.
Australia's Clyde Lewis took gold in a time of 4:13.12, Scotland's Mark Szaranek took silver (4:13.72) and teenager Lewis Clareburt of New Zealand rounded up the podium in a time of 4:14.42.
Sweeney's next race will be in the third heat of the men's 200m Individual Medley on Tuesday (03:21 SA time).
Earlier in the day, Team South Africa brought home two medals in the form of Chad le Clos, who won gold in the 50m butterfly, while his fellow countryman Ryan Coetzee took bronze.
