SA hurdler Alkana misses out on podium

Cape Town - South Africa's Antonio Alkana has failed to medal in the final of the 110m hurdles at the Commonwealth Games.

The 27-year-old finished sixth in a time of 13.49 despite having qualified third fastest for the final after the heats.

It was a 1-2 for Jamaica, with Ronald Levy taking gold in a time of 13.19 and Hansle Parchment bagging silver in 13.22.

The bronze medal went to Australia's Nicholas Hough, who ran 13.38.

South Africa's other chance for a medal on the track on Tuesday comes in the form of Caster Semenya, who is the overwhelming favourite to win the 1 500m final.

That race starts at 14:04 (SA time).
