Team SA to be honoured

Cape Town - This Friday is #TEAMSAFRIDAY and Lead SA is calling on the public to wear their South African colours and to fully support Team SA.

The department of sports and recreation and SASCOC have arranged an open bus tour through Sandton and a public gathering at Nelson Mandela Square to give South Africans a chance to celebrate the successes of our athletes.

"Team SA has done the nation proud.

"40 medals is an excellent achievement and we need to celebrate our success.

"Congratulations to our team for taking 7th overall position at the Commonwealth Games," said Lead SA.

South Africans are urged to come out in their thousands and line the streets of Johannesburg from 11:00 to 13:30 or to join the athletes at Nelson Mandela Square from 15:30 for a public celebration.

"We are creating a culture of recognizing and celebrating excellence and inspiring athletes to do more," said minister of sport, Fikile Mbalula.

"We want all the fans to come, to take selfies, photographs and autographs with our athletes who made us proud," he added.

"As Lead SA, we are fully behind our national sporting teams and have supported them before.

"We will continue doing so.

"Sport has brought us together and we must continue to unite. Sport promotes social cohesion."
