Boxer’s alleged murderer killed

East London - A 17-year-old man was killed by East London residents after apparently stabbing to death junior featherweight boxer Lundi Madondile, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.

“Community members managed to arrest the suspect on Saturday and assaulted him,” Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala said.

An ambulance was called, but the man died on his way to hospital, he said.

Mqala said the residents of Scenery Park caught the man and attacked him after being told her had stormed into the 30-year-old boxer's home and killed him.

He said police arrived to find Madondile dead. They did not know the motive for the attack on him and were investigating.

Madondile was to have challenged South African junior featherweight Macbute Sinyabi for the title on December 8.

Ranked sixth in South Africa, Madondile beat Jerome Cebekhulu from Durban in the second round at the Mdantsane Indoor Centre on October 21.
