Cape Town - We know that he is a massive Liverpool supporter, but it turns out that South African sprint king Wayde van Niekerk is also a fan of Formula One.
The 400m world record holder, currently recovering from a serious knee injury, was spotted at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza over the weekend.
Van Niekerk posted several photographs to his Twitter timeline of him at the track, hanging out in the McLaren garage and mingling with the likes of F1 legend Felipe Massa.
South African 100m Commonwealth Games gold medallist Akani Simbine and long-jumper Ruswahl Samaai were also at the race, which was won by Lewis Hamilton.
Van Niekerk injured his knee in a celebrity touch rugby match all the way back in October last year, but he says he is pain free for the first time in months and has started running again.
It is unlikely that he will compete again this year, but the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo will be the main aim for him from here.
So I just had the opportunity to meet the legend himself. ???????????? @MassaFelipe19 pic.twitter.com/Obvmj7dxDe
