Cape Town - World champion Luvo Manyonga leaped to silver in the men's long jump at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham on Friday evening.
Manyonga, who missed in four of his six attempts, jumped 8.44m to finish second in England.
Juan Miguel Echevarria of Cuba took gold as the leaped to 8.46m, which is the best long jump of the year.
The 19-year-old Echevarria became the youngest male field event champion of all time.
Meanwhile, the 2016 indoor champ Marquis Dendy, had to settle for bronze with a jump of 8.42m.
Other South Africans in the long jump field included World Championships bronze medallist Ruswahl Samaai, who finished sixth with a best of 8.05m and 2008 Olympic silver medallist Khotso Mokoena ended 14th with a jump of 7.53.
