Two Oceans Half sold out

Cape Town - Some 6 000 second round entries to South Africa’s biggest half marathon have sold out in record time.

The entries were made available to runners who have not completed any Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon races and previous participants who missed the first entry batch.

A new split entry process was introduced for the 2013 Two Oceans Half Marathon. 10 000 entries were released on November 1, 2012 for participants who have completed previous Two Oceans Marathon races. With a maximum field of 16 000, the remaining 6 000 entries were snapped up in less than four hours after opening at 10:00 on Tuesday, January 15, 2013.

Those runners who missed out on a Two Oceans Half Marathon entry will have a chance to do a substitution entry, as there are participants who will not be able to take part in the event. No downgrades from the Ultra Marathon to the Half Marathon will be permitted as the Half Marathon is now full, and any runner who is found to have entered the Ultra event, but takes part in the Half Marathon on race day, will be disqualified from future Two Oceans Marathon events.

Rowyn James, Race Director of the Two Oceans Marathon, says he is pleased by the enthusiasm of the athletes and looks forward to a fantastic event on March 30, 2013.

He says there are less than 5 000 entries left for the Ultra Marathon and encourages participants to enter online at www.twooceansmarathon.org.za

For those who were unable to secure an entry for the Half Marathon, the Two Ocean Marathon Fun Runs are a shorter alternative. They will take place at the University of Cape Town (UCT) rugby fields, on Friday, March 29, 2013. There are loads of fun activities for the entire family and participants can choose between the following distances: 8km, 5.6km, 2.1km, 300m Toddlers’ Trot and 56m Nappy Dash.

Runners are able to change their entries (seeding updates, upgrades and substitutions) between January 15 and February 20 by post or alternatively online until March 5. Please note that no changes will be permitted after this date. More information regarding entry changes can be found on the Two Oceans Marathon website. No late entries will be accepted and entries posted after Tuesday, January 15 will be rejected, with no refunds considered.
