Wayde van Niekerk's gift from Liverpool star

Cape Town - South African Olympic hero Wayde van Niekerk is as a massive Liverpool fan, and he got the perfect Christmas present from the club this week.

Van Niekerk, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury after that bizarre touch rugby incident, took to Twitter on Friday to post a picture of a gift he received from Liverpool midfielder Mo Salah

The 25-year-old Egyptian has been one of the form players in the Premier League this season, topping the goal scoring charts with 13 goals already.

And he made Van Niekerk's day by sending him a signed Liverpool jersey.

Van Niekerk responded with a simple: "Thank you".

Van Niekerk's injury has ruled him out of next year's Commonwealth Games on Australia's Gold Coast.

Liverpool, meanwhile, currently sit fifth on the Premier League table.
