SA juniors bag five medals in Algeria

Cape Town - The national Under-20 team got their campaign off to a winning start on Thursday, raking in five medals on Day One of the CAA African Junior Championships in Tlemcen, Algeria.

Patrick Duvenage produced a 59.46m heave and former world youth champion Werner Visser delivered a 58.70m effort, with both young giants earning Personal Bests to secure the gold and silver medals, respectively in the Men's Discus Throw final.

Jana Steinmann and Yolandi Stander were equally dominant in the Women's Shot Put contest.

Steinmann won gold with a 13.15m attempt and Stander took silver with a 12.72m heave.

In the Men's Long Jump final, Aaron Pedro launched a 7.10m leap with his fourth attempt to grab bronze.

This 13th edition of the biennial age-group showpiece will be held over five days, coming to a close on Sunday.
