Comrades to finish at Moses Mabhida

Cape Town - The 2018 'down' Comrades Marathon will finish at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The stadium, built to host matches during the 2010 Soccer World Cup, will replace Kingsmead as the new finish to the world's largest and oldest ultra marathon.

"Runners can expect the same route as in 2016 - except for the last 8km - with a 12-hour cut-off," confirmed race director Rowyn James on Wednesday.

The change to the last 8km was necessitated avoid the Tollgate highway.

The race will start outside City Hall in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday, June 10, 2018.

Entries, for what will be the 93rd running, open on Friday, September 1 and will close on Thursday, November 30 (or when the 20 000 entry limit is reached - whichever is first).

The defending 'down' run champion is South Africa's David Gatebe who set a new record in stopping the clock in a time of 5:18:19 in 2016.
