Cape Town - St Luke’s Hospice is a charity which has for the past 34 years, cared for people living with life-threatening and terminal illnesses in the Greater Cape Town area.
We believe our patients - and their families - deserve the best palliative care, love and support in their most difficult times.
Palliative care is the total active care of patients whose disease is no longer responsive to curative treatment. Control of patients’ pain and other symptoms, as well as psychological, social and spiritual support, is our highest priority.
We have one ward in Kenilworth as well as seven day care centres and a team of carers who bring care, empathy and treatment to patients in their homes.
We also manage the Lizo Nobanda Drug Resistant TB Care Centre in Khayelitsha.
On any given day, over 860 patients receive our professional care for free (unless the patient has medical aid, and there are funds available, we will then submit a claim to the medical aid). This is made possible by the generosity of the people in the community and fundraising.
ST LUKE’S HOSPICE SUPERHERO TRAIL RUN – Running to bring dignity!
This year sees St Luke’s Hospice - in conjunction with Wildrunner - hosting our first Trail Run event.
This event celebrates the uplifting work of St Luke’s Hospice, the strength of our inspiring patients and the people, or “superheroes” that support us so we can keep caring for the terminally ill.
Dress up like your favourite superhero and join our run!
The event takes place on Saturday, May 24, 2014.
There will be two routes along the slopes of Table Mountain:
6.3km - Superhero Sidekick Route (perfect to walk or run)
Start time: 08:00, entry fee R120 (only 400 runners allowed on route)
17.3km - Superman & Supergirl Route (a more challenging route, which includes some climbs)
Start time: 07:30, entry fee R200 (only 400 runners allowed on route)
Both routes will finish at the UCT Cricket Pavilion on Middle Campus in Rondebosch.
Registration will take place on Friday, May 23 at Sportsmans Warehouse, Rondebosch, from 12:00-18:00.
Goodie bags will be given to all runners, lots of spot prizes as well as a raffle for a weekend stay for two at Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge, valued at R10 560.
Guest appearance by Professor Tim Noakes and other celebrities.
We have partnered with Wildrunner to host a professional and sustainable event, which we hope will be enjoyed by all the entrants. This trail run’s ultimate aim is to raise money to add to our superheroes’ fantastic contributions and create awareness of the work that we do.
