SA Juniors add five medals

Johannesburg - Team South Africa added five more medals to the medal telly on the second day of the Junior Athletics Championships in Gaborone, Botswana on Friday.

The team added two gold, one silver and two bronze medals to the five medal haul of the first day of the championships.

In the girls 100 hurdles, Kyla Gilbert claimed gold clocking 14.25 seconds to beat team mate Liriska Botha in second place.

Chante van Tonder added a bronze to the medals table in the 100m for junior women in a time of 12.05.

The junior boys completed a dominant day for South Africa in the sprint races with Gideon Trotter taking the 100m final in 10.50 and Emile Erasmus finishing in the third place.

On the first day of the championships the team won one gold, three silver and a bronze.

In the girls discus, Ischke Senekal produced a personal best of 49.9m to win gold while compatriot Simone Meyer won bronze.

Pole Vaulters Jeanne Van Dyk and Mariska Smit shared the silver medal in the Junior Women's Pole Vault, Both clearing 3.35m.

The Gold went to Tunisia's Mahfoundhi Dorra with her vault of 3.40m.

Roelf Pienaar won South Africa's third silver and fifth medal of the first day in the long jump.

Pienaar's 7.55m was 14cm behind Kabbachi el-Mehd of Morocco.
