Cape Town - Police are investigating whether Oscar Pistorius shot his girlfriend dead while in the grip of 'roid rage', a report on the Mirror's website indicates.
Pistorius, 26, has been in police custody since Thursday after his 29-year-old model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was shot and killed in his Pretoria home.
Banned steroids were reportedly found at the athlete's home and police are now probing whether he shot Steenkamp dead in an explosive rage caused by taking large doses of performance enhancing drugs. He has also had blood samples taken to be tested for the drugs.
"Roid rage" is described as a spontaneous anger outburst due to the overuse of steroids
A source close to the investigation told The Sun: "Steroid drugs were found at Pistorius's home together with evidence of heavy drinking. That's why police have specifically ordered that he be tested for steroids."
Pistorius has been charged with murder and is due to appear in court on Tuesday for a formal bail application.
