SASCOC express condolences

2013-02-14 10:25

Cape Town - The SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) could not comment on the shooting of a woman at paralympian Oscar Pistorius's home on Thursday.

VIDEO: Oscar Pistorius on the Oscars

"SASCOC, like the rest of the public, knows no more than what is in the public domain, which is there has been an alleged fatal shooting on the basis of a mistaken identity and an apparent assumption of a burglary," the Olympic body said in a statement.

"The organisation is in no position to comment on the incident other than to say our deepest sympathy and condolences have been expressed to the families of all concerned."

Beeld reported on its website that Pistorius allegedly accidentally shot his girlfriend dead.

Police spokesperson Lt-Col Katlego Mogale confirmed police were called to Pistorius's home in the Silver Lakes Golf Estate in Boschkop, Pretoria, on Thursday morning following a shooting.

"Paramedics declared the woman dead on the scene and police proceeded with their investigation. The woman sustained wounds to her head and the upper body," Mogale said.

A 9mm pistol was recovered.

Beeld reported that the shooter thought she was a robber.

Mogale said a 26-year-old was expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court later on Thursday.

She said the victim's name could only be released once her next of kin had been informed.

SASCOC said: "There is a police investigation, as is customary with any shooting... it would be irresponsible and inappropriate to comment... until the official investigative process has been completed."

Athletics SA president James Evans said the governing body for the sport could also not comment.

"It is a private matter and we don't have all the facts," Evans said.

If they tried to break into Oscar's house the I give him a thumb up for his actions. Good one Oscar!

      john.botges - 2013-02-14 14:44

He took an exception to the socks she gave him for Valentines Day, and then got legless

      sicelo.brukwe.9 - 2013-02-14 20:27

Hahahaha John, I think they had a rough night and Oscar was just too much for her in bed but then she tried to run away from One Leg Valentine!!!

  • Hansie.Crook - 2013-02-14 10:39

ofcourse there will be no comment. IOL and News24 have closed their comments section on Oscar's strory, WHY??? Their excuse is they dont want "unwarranted speculation".. I smell a big rat in this Oscar story and his "burglars" story doesnt have legs to stand on.

      naolifant - 2013-02-14 10:57

I have the same problem Hansie, thanks for raising it. I'm a journalist myself, by it seems some media houses have fatally failed to allow the public to air their views over this without casting aspersions on who did what. I thought Oscar's eyesight was tops. I urge the editors to open up the comments section and they must relax, we only wanna send condolences.

      Bob - 2013-02-14 11:19

LOL here I thought they banned me or something. Yeah the censorship on this site is appalling, and so too are the slimy readers who go around abusing the report feature. They should all be ashamed of their fascist behavior.

      rodney.louis.7 - 2013-02-14 11:47

i agree with n24 for blocking the comment section as family and friends of the deceased also read article's here , and most ppl post idiotic comments on this site

I never really liked and still don't like the guy, when ever you read his stories somethings controversy always appear like anger, double crossing women in his life, insults at Olympics, pride and all that, this issue must not be swept under the carpet,In as much as there was noise about Jub Jub and lots of comments by one race that dominates comments here,Let's see that on Comments but no,all i see are symphathies or excuses ,was Jub Jub not given sympathy because he is..............

      eric.f.moloi - 2013-02-14 11:17

      Bare truth

      Bob - 2013-02-14 11:25

You only see sympathetic crap here because the Nazi moderators working for N24 seem to go around deleting everything besides the bile-inducing 'condolences to her family' and 'god bless them' nonsense.

      FranciscaAdams - 2013-02-14 11:34

your ignorance is mind bogling! jub jub was irresponsible, oscar acted on fear and anxiety! my gosh are you serious???!!!

      rodney.louis.7 - 2013-02-14 11:51

it appears as if the accused was a bit reckless with his firearm .. who shoots blindly into the dark without making sure of the circumstance !!!

  • fragtion - 2013-02-14 10:57

You don't mistake your girlfriend for a burglar and shoot her 4 times. Seriously. As if Anene's case wasn't enough for the country to handle, thanks Oscar for this lovely Valentines Day gift. ^_^ I always suspected something odd about this guy, starting from the time when he publicized a race against an Arabian Horse that was badly flogged during the race

This is how this story should have been written in the first place and i will kill any editor who changes it: NATHI OLIFANT Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has been arrested for allegedly shooting his model girlfriend at their private estate home in Gauteng on the eve of Valentines day. Police confirmed that the temperamental double amputee said he had mistaken his girlfriend for a robber. Details are still sketchy, but Pistorius, popularly known as the “Blade Runner” was set to appear in court this morning on charges of murder. It was still not clear if the firearm used was a licence one.

      bernard.nienaber - 2013-02-14 11:29

you probably not a very successful journo, are you? probably out of work, sitting at home trying to disregard people. anyway from the way you wrote this i can see you're struggling with your profession.

      Hansie.Crook - 2013-02-14 11:31

This is what his girlfriend wrote on tweeter yesterday: @reevasteenkamp: What do you have up your sleeve for your love tomorrow??? #getexcited #ValentinesDay My be it was a valentines suprise gone wrong.. but all remains to be seen. I just wish that the media could report fair on this matter.

      naolifant - 2013-02-14 11:37

Shame Bernard. I'm proud to announce that I'm an award winning reporter on top of his game with 13 years of experience in the industry. I'm unashamed of my profession and have never struggled and that's the reason why I'm still employed.

      bernard.nienaber - 2013-02-14 12:38

mr olifant your 13 years experience is not reflected in the way you wrote the above comment. i am in the industry as well but not a journalist, it just baffles me that i never heard of you. why would a award winning reporter sit on news24 and criticise his fellow reporters, i would've thought he had his own articles to write at his so called place of employment.

      naolifant - 2013-02-15 10:33

never heard of me? I blame ignorance and sheer arrogance that you have displayed here

and its reported that his girlfriend was shot in her PJs... Do burglars wear PJs to a break-in? Did Oscar not check for her girlfriend before he went to investigate the noise?? Im sure he would have seen that his girlfried was up to get some water or something... Does Oscar sleep with his Prostethic legs on?

      zapadela.tistarocha - 2013-02-14 11:21

This tainted runner on blades is GUILTY.

  • brian.connell.18 - 2013-02-14 11:21

Mogale said a 26-year-old was expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court later on Thursday. WTF?

      brian.connell.18 - 2013-02-14 12:28

Don't know why I got a thumbs down. The police KNOW HIS NAME!!!! So their statement is really weird. The also had text explaining that they couldn't release the name of the victim at that time, while a CAPTIONED photograph of the young lady in question was on the same page! Please explain your rationale in giving a thumbs-down, I'd be interested ....

  • marlin.samuels.1 - 2013-02-14 11:26

Sascoc already taking sides, showing they support their golden boy, from hero to zero woman abuser

  • Bob - 2013-02-14 11:29

An arrogant prick who can always dish it out but can't take the criticism. I hope they come down hard on this disgraceful human being who has used a disability for a cash cow and as a way to manipulate rules for his own benefit.

All you people act like you do no wrong. When he runs for South Africa at the Olympics, all you people cheer for him, but now you won't accept his word for the truth. Oscar don't let this get you down, we all still love you. Hope for the best.
