Cape Town - According to the Mail Online website, Oscar Pistorius has been training with fellow South African athlete Claudia Viljoen.

Pistorius, who stands accused of killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in the bathroom at his home in Pretoria on February 14 this year, has avoided the public eye and the training ground since his murder trial began.

Viljoen, 24, an old friend of Pistorius', is a trained sports scientist and former international hurdler over 100m.

Pistorius' new training partner is helping him overcome the tragic circumstances surrounding Steenkamp’s death on Valentine's Day this year.

Viljoen’s job as Pistorius’ training partner is to keep the 'Blade Runner' focused on athletics while he is in training, in a relationship that is strictly professional.

Friends of the pair say they are in no danger of developing a romantic attachment, as Viljoen is currently engaged to business consultant James Heunis.

Viljoen’s responsibilities as his training partner include reporting to Pistorius’ coach, Ampie Louw, to keep him informed about Oscar’s mental well-being.

The pair train together, doing weights and cardio exercises in an indoor gym at the residence of Pistorius’ uncle, Arnold Pistorius.

Pistorius will next appear in court on August 19, which co-incidentally would have been Steenkamp's 30th birthday.
