Injury delays Rudisha return

Nairobi - Kenya's world and Olympic 800m record holder David Rudisha will not make his scheduled return at the Doha Diamond League on Friday due to a foot injury, his coach said.

The 25-year-old, who has been out of athletics since June last year, had hoped to make his comeback in the Qatari capital for the opening leg of the International IAAF Diamond League circuit season.

"David is very disappointed he will not run in Doha. He was looking forward to the meet, which has always acted as a good venue for him, to start his track season," Colm O'Connell told AFP.

"He developed a sore foot after pulling a calf muscle while in training last week and he does not want to rush back into competition and aggravate the knee injury which has kept him out of athletics for too long."

The Olympic champion's next scheduled race is a Diamond League outing at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon on May 30-31.

He will also take part at the New York Diamond League meet on June 14.
