Gatebe wins Two Oceans

Cape Town - South African runner David Gatebe has won the Men's 56km 2013 Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon race in a time of 3 hours 08 minutes and 54 seconds, taking the R250,000 prize, with Henry Kipsang finishing close behind in second place in a time of 3:10:02 and Moeketsi Mosuhli in third with a time of 3:10:23.

The Women's race was won by 36-year old Natalia Volgina from Russia, who won the race for the second time in 11 years, finishing in a time of 3:38:38.

Stephen Mokoka won the 21-kilometre half marathon in a time of 1:03:36, with Ethiopean Biru Mengitsu being the first woman home in 1:12:43.

The 56-kilometre race started in Claremont and finishes at the University of Cape Town campus sports field.

More than 10 700 people entered the popular ultra marathon, with around 16 000 people entering the 21-kilometre half marathon.

Organisers have announced that for the 2014 event, R1 million will go to the first man or woman to finish - if they break the course record.
