CT Marathon festival!

Cape Town - Found yourself in the corporate world with competing departments and nowhere to truly challenge each other? Would you like to test your school’s best runners against those of an opposing school? Are your friends all talk and no action?

Calling all corporates, schools and social runners looking for a team challenge - don’t miss the 5 x 4.2km Cape Town Relay at the new Green Point Athletics Stadium on Saturday, September 21, 2013.

The Cape Town Relay - which is part of the Cape Town Marathon and Cape Town 10km festival weekend - provides a great opportunity for groups to take part in a half-marathon, without the pressure of a full 21km. The race sees each member of the 5 person Relay team running a 4.2km loop through the stadium and surrounding pedestrian and cycle paths before passing on the baton.

The Cape Town Relay starts at 14:30 and sees runners entering in three categories: male, female or mixed. All participants will receive a medal as well as prizes for the winning teams. The top three teams in each category will see themselves running away with R1 000, R750 and R500 for 1st, 2nd or 3rd place respectively. The rewards are small but the bragging rights are priceless.

Organisers are calling on runners to lace up those trainers and start training in teams and challenging others to do the same.

So lace up those trainers; gather colleagues, friends and family members and put your takkies to the track to celebrate Spring and enjoy some friendly competition.

If you’re feeling a little winter-weary and can’t wait for spring, we know just how you feel. With a new season comes better opportunity to enjoy the wonderful outdoors that the Mother City has on offer.

Meanwhile, the Cape Town 5km Fun Run - also on Saturday, September 21 - is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the start of Spring and get your heart beating for good health.

The run, which starts at 16:00 inside the all new Green Point Athletics Stadium and includes sections through the spectacular Green Point Urban Park, is open to both walkers and runners - with everyone who complete the distance receiving a medal.

Challenge your friends to a 5km dash or gather your family for something every person can enjoy. Whether you’re a walking wanderer or aspiring marathon winner - be sure to join in on this outdoor fun.
