Cape Town - American ultra-distance runner Kami Semick has been forced to withdraw from next month's Comrades marathon due to a hip injury.

"I kicked a rock and jammed my hip a couple of weeks ago during a peak training session," Semick told the Nedbank Running Club in an e-mail on Monday.

"I've been getting PT (physical therapy), but still not able to run consistently.

"I'm going to get an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging scan) today, but not being able to run for two weeks is a bad sign."

The Nedbank runner finished fourth in 2010 and was third in the 2011 Marathon. She withdrew from the 2012 event due to injury.

Semick joined Ellie Greenwood, Lizzy Hawker, Devon-Crosby Helms (Yanko), Emma Gooderham and Kajsa Berg, in pulling out of the event due to injuries.
