Cape Town - South African athletes will be chasing places in the IAAF Diamond League finals, to be held later this month, when they turn out at the last meeting in the league phase of the series in Birmingham, England on Saturday.
Sprinter Akani Simbine, lying second behind American athlete Ronnie Baker in the overall 100m men standings, will book his spot in the series final provided he progresses through the heats in Birmingham.
He will be joined in the 100m event by African 200m champion Ncincilili Titi.
Wenda Nel is in sixth place in the 400m hurdles women's standings, national record holder Antonio Alkana is lying 10th in the 110m hurdles men rankings and distance runner Dom Scott-Efurd who is in 17th position in her specialist discipline, they will all be looking for solid performances in order to earn crucial points.
There are only eight positions are available in the finals of their respective events.
While it does not form part of the official Diamond League series, world champion Luvo Manyonga and Zarck Visser will compete in the long jump men in Birmingham, to be contested as part of the pre-programme at the top-flight meeting.
