Cape Town - Sport24 takes a quick look at the five BEST and WORST sports performers of the weekend.

GOING UP! The FIVE BEST sports stars or teams of the weekend:

1. Duane Vermeulen
Vermeulen was named SARU Rugby Player of the Year, SARPA Players’ Player of the Year and Vodacom Super Rugby Player of the Year for 2014.



2. The English Premiership 
- Another dramatic weekend which saw 5 goals scored with five minutes or less left on the clock. 



3. Ivory Coast 
- The Elephants beat Ghana in a tense battle for AFCON 2015 glory



4. Anirban Lahiri - Winner of the 2014 Malaysian Open. 



5. Warriors cricket team - The Eastern Cape franchise entered the record books with the highest ever run-chase in South African domestic one-day cricket. 



GOING DOWN! The FIVE WORST sports stars or teams of the weekend:

1. 42nd Midmar Mile
The open water swimming event was again marred by tragedy after 30-year-old swimmer, Tristan Dennis, became the third to go missing in five years.



2. Egyptian soccer tragedy 
- The beautiful game was tainted with the deaths of 22 fans in Egypt. 



3. Tiger Woods
- Bad back or just bad golf? Tiger Woods withdrew during round one of the Farmers Insurance Open.



4. Louis van Gaal
- The United manager must take the blame for another poor display by the Red Devils as they scraped to a 1-1 draw at West Ham.



5. Arsenal 
- Chasing a top four spot and leading at rivals Spurs, Arsenal slumped to a 2-1 loss and failed to assert their authority at White Hart Lane.
