Now that Wille le Roux has categorically established himself as our first choice Fullback, who is our backup?
le Roux has show the catalytic value of a naturally creative, attack-centric, adjunct-flyhalf operating at 15. Unless his backup can offer similar qualities, our entire game is going to quickly regress to its shackled, stagnant past. Zane Kirchner, for all his defensive solidity, will never be spoken about as a catalyst/spark/creator/visionary.
If it is clear that an adjunct-flyhalf with a natural attacking inclination, pace, vision, and solidity under the high ball, is the type of 15 we need (and increasing rely on for all attacks), then it is also very clear that Johan Goosen should be the obvious back-up Fullback to Willie le Roux.
Add in the fact that he is injury prone, as a Fullback the contact/collisions will be less than flyhalf.
