To a Stormers year!

JP, I couldn’t agree with you more, 2013 is definitely the year the Stormers will lift the super rugby trophy.

The Stormers have assembled a squad for the 2013 season that is capable of going all the way. They now have depth in key postions that they never had before and a number of players returning from injury that was imperative to last year’s campaign. Having such a good squad of players will keep those in the starting line up under pressure to perform well and the coach can also rotate players with ease knowing that there is capable cover.

They would need to start well against the Bulls and the Sharks which are both away games. There is no easy games in the Super rugby competition as we have seen the past few years and the tweaking of a couple of rules/laws makes the game more spectator friendly.

I think finding the write combinations from the beginning will be key to the stormers success, the scrumhalf/flyhalf combination been top of the list. Elton Jantjies should start at flyhalf with Groom at scrumhalf but coach Coetzee said that Duwenhage is the no 1 scrumhalf, We are spoilt for choice with quality loose forwards this season with Burger & Carr as well as Elsatdt returning from injury. The starting trio should read, Vermeulen (No8) with Schalk and Kolisi at no 6 & 7 respectively. Then you have Nizaam Carr, Michael Rhodes & Elstadt that can provide cover. Another interesting selection would be that of fullback. I think Jaco taute should be the the no15 with Joe Petersen providing cover and Habana and Aplon the wings. The centres should be Jean De Villiers and Juan De Jongh. Juan should play inside centre as he is more comfortable in that position and with Jean wanting to prolong his career he should play at 13. Up front the stormers are still looking for a backup hooker as Deon Fourie is the only one currently in training. Our young props in Kitshoff and Malherbe can now be regarded as season campaigners and with Cilliers in the mix the stormers will have a solid scrum this season with Bekker and Ezebeth in the engine room.

I think all rugby supporters are keenly waiting for the the start of the super season and those in the Eastern Cape even more with the addition of the Kings.

Lets hope it’s a Stormer of a year!!
