Starting to miss Divvie?

I definitely miss Peter De Villiers. He had a way of managing the players and brought about a calmness in the squad. I have been to numerous matches where the Springboks played under the reigns of PDV and have gone to watch the match against Argentinia on Newlands. I have noted the obvious contrast in difference in the two teams. De Villiers spoke to his players on the field during warm up but he was calm and relaxed whilst Meyer is edgy bringing about a tense environment. One can also note that by the way he shouts into his walky talky from the coaches booth. Apart from that one can see the tension on the face of Jean De Villiers when he address the media. Then the obvious difference is the game plans. Under PDV the Boks could easily adapt their game plan depending on the situation whilst we see the same stereo types in Heynecke's game plans. Frans Steyn is an instinctive player but he has been told to take the ball up and he does that religiously to the point where he would have men over on the outside but then he smashes into the defense in front of him.

The greatest contrast in the two coaches is that Peter De Villiers achieved almost instant success with all his teams that he coached(Maties, Tygerberg, WP Amateur, WP B, WP Disa, Falkons, SA A, Under 21 Springboks and the Springboks) while Heynecke Meyer buids a team over time but eventually achieve's success. If SARU and the public and the media is going to want to stick it out with Heynecke Meyer we might want get used to the idea that we are not going to see a Tri Nations or even World Cup soon, but eventually will.

In my opinion, the rugby public learned to give PDV a chance but they did'nt needed patience to do that. With Meyer it will be a matter of how patient they can be.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
