Questions for Heyneke

So, it’s that time of the year again when we look forward to the best that we have donning the famous green and gold to do our country proud. As an avid rugby supporter and follower, I especially relish the Springbok tests as it unites the country behind our boys, generally regardless to their provincial loyalties or any other indifferences we may have.

The same applies to me, though being a 100% Stormer, I am just happy to see the players do their best when they are selected on merit and deserve to be there. I wouldn’t say make the whole Bok team Stormers, not by a long shot, I firmly agree that we should be selecting the best we have and making them ambassadors of South Africa!

So the first training camp has been drawn as follows;
Blue Bulls        - 11
Sharks             - 11
Stormers         - 8
Cheetahs         - 4
Lions                - 2 (Seeing that both Franco and Elton are on loan to The Sharks and The Stormers respectively)

Some of the selections do not surprise me as there are players of massive quality that deserve to be there and then a few guys that I am extremely glad that have been selected or stayed in selection such as;
Siya Kolisi, Eben Etzebeth, Patrick Lambie, Ryan Kankowski, Jan Serfontein & Raymond Rhule

The questions that I do however have;

1.    Is Zane Kirchner the only fullback in South Africa? What about Louis Ludick? Are his consistent quality performances not enough?
2.    How are the Sharks, Cheetahs and Stormers getting by the past few season without scrumhalves? Do Sarel Pretorious, Cobus Reinach and Dewalt Duvenage have to first levitate and then fly to be considered?
3.    Is Heinrich Brussouw still not good enough?
4.    Elton? Really? No doubt great potential but when is this potential going to be exerted on the field?

Looking at the selection, most of it looks great but it does leave a lot to be desired. I just hope that the guys that were “lucky enough” to be selected, do us proud and smash their opposition. This year’s Castle Championship has to come our way!

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
