Proteas are still No.1

The Jackals are barking.

Somehow, the world has forgotten that we are number one. Our test side is filled with genuine greats who will be remembered for decades. We have not lost a series in 5 years. Our batsmen and bowlers are individually ranked number one and so is the team.

Yet, somehow, the Aussies are arriving with their tails up. Talking about how they are going to target Graeme Smith. Ha! The man is a titan. Since he decimated the English as a young boy his form has gone up and down but his steel jawed resolve has never wavered. Some trumped up pup is going to intimidate him? What? With the exception of Sehwag and Hayden no other opener in the last two decades can be mentioned in the same breath. They must be smoking something.

I’m reminded of this scene from the movie “Poolhall Junkies”

I won’t even dignify their claims of having the world’s best bowling attack with a proper response. Make no mistake, they are good. And on any given day Johnson can be a handful. But if you want to be mentioned in the same sentence as Steyn, you are going to have to do a lot more than knock over a few spineless Ponces.

Hopefully, it will be a great series. And I really hope that the supporters fill the stands and create some atmosphere. But most of all, I think it’s time that our boys remind the world who we are. Don’t just beat ‘em, kick their asses!
