Quinton a chance to play test cricket, but definitely not as an opening batsmen at this stage. Far better idea for him to bat at 7 and get the necessary experience at test level. One of the reasons Australia were so strong was to introduce players in the lower middle order (6 or 7) and let them move up the order as they gained experience and maturity. There’s a big difference between test cricket and ODIs/T20s. The mental maturity required in playing 5 days versus one day cricket is vast.
The other problem is that Quinton doesn’t keep wicket for his franchise, as Tsolokile keeps wicket for the Lions, which I think is detrimental to Quinton’s development. He needs to keep wicket at franchise level as that would help him develop his keeping skills to a higher level. De Kok needs to be given an opportunity at test level, but he must keep wicket in order to free up De Villiers.
