Fans sceptical about Olympics

Cape Town - Sport24 readers have expressed scepticism at the idea of South Africa submitting a bid for the Olympic Games.

This follows a report where SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) member Sam Ramsamy revealed that Nelson Mandela had expressed a desire to see the Olympic Games held in South Africa.

Ramsamy has outlined an ambition to bring the Olympic Games to the country in the “very near future” to fulfil one of Mandela’s last wishes.

However, 65% of Sport24 readers admitted to doubts over South Africa's suitability to host an Olympic Games.

Sport24 asked:

"Nelson Mandela had a desire to see South Africa host the Olympic Games. Your thoughts?"

This was the response:

28% - Would be nice, but realistically we're never going to pull it off
35% - Absolutely! Come on IOC, award it to SA!
37% - The Olympics is bigger than any one person. If SA are awarded the Games, other factors need to be considered
