Fans mock SBW 'sideshow'

Cape Town - Sport24 readers have said that rugby stars Sonny Bill Williams and Quade Cooper's "boxing careers" are not to be taken seriously.

Following Wallaby vice-captain Quade Cooper's fourth round knockout win in his second professional fight againt 40-year-old former cage-fighter Warren "The Fortress" Tresidder to keep his win record intact, readers didn't appear too impressed.

47% of voters in our online poll said they thought the boxing antics of Williams and Cooper amounted to little more than a publicity stunt, and most felt that that the pair's unbeaten records were padded by match-ups against inferior opponents.

Sport24 asked:

What do you think about boxing bouts featuring rugby stars like Quade Cooper and Sonny Bill Williams?

These were the results:

47% - It's a joke! They only fight has-beens and losers!
19% - If people are prepared to pay to watch it, then why not?
17% - It just shows what finely-tuned athletes rugby players are
17% - It makes a mockery of the noble sport of boxing!
