Heyneke Meyer was left counting the cost of the Springboks' mounting injury toll, but chose to see the positives:

"Losing Pierre is obviously a setback, because he is the most experienced member of our forward pack, but we will never take any risks with injured players. Injuries are part of the game and this now provides an opportunity for someone else to stake a claim."

Here is what Sport24 readers had to say about Spies's injury:

"There goes our title chances."
- Spyker 'O Flannigan

"Don't come blaming HM if we don't win the Championship - his best players are dropping like flies." - press.enter.12

"Get well soon, Pierre Spies."
- pietskietgospringbokke.springbok

"Spies is a big part of the team." - mike.roy.7798

"It's kind of sad what happened to him, I can still remember the days when he Burger and Smith formed the best loose trio in the world."
- arthur.j.ware

"As much as I am not a supporter of Spies, it is not cool so see guys get injured. I hope his recovery is speedy, and that he can get his form of 2 years ago back." - Travie Grif

"Spies should never have been selected in the first place."
- Clive K

"A blessing in disguise." - Mthunzi.Phakathi

"Now maybe Willem Alberts can claim his rightful place as Bok no 8."
- Fef.Gericke

"Heyneke has basically 2 options now....move Alberts to 8 and start with Coetsee and Kolisi as flanks....or a straight swap with Daniel for Spies."
- grant.butler.104

"Kankowski must be kicking himself." - GB

"Spies is not the best No.8 we have. Hope Keegan Daniel gets his chance." - Deanmpeters

"Go, Duane Vermeulen, go!"
- Visser Isak

An opportunity for someone else to show their mettle in the No 8 jersey? (Gallo Images)
