Fans: Stick with Super Rugby!

Cape Town - Sport24 readers believe that the South African Rugby Union (SARU) should stick with Super Rugby after reports emerged that they were exploring other options.

A report on the front page of Wednesday's Die Burger newspaper stated that South Africa may decide to turn its back on Super Rugby. The opportunity of forming a competition with French and English teams is reportedly better from a financial point of view due to the favourable time zones for broadcasters in South Africa and Europe.

The current broadcast rights deal for both hemispheres expires at the end of 2015, and South Africa's revenue could increase if they join a European competition, the report stated.

But Sport24 readers were worried that standards may slip in South African rugby if they start playing against teams from the northern hemisphere instead of Super Rugby, which many believe to be the bench-mark club competition in the world.

Sport24 asked:

Do you think South Africa should ditch Super Rugby and play in Europe?

These were the results:

36% - Yes, it makes financial sense
64% - No, the quality of SA rugby will suffer
