Fans: Steyn for Bok flyhalf

Cape Town - Sport24 readers are calling for Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer to restore Morne Steyn as the team's first-choice flyhalf, after his brilliant recent form.

Steyn was instrumental in the Bulls beating the Waratahs on Saturday, contributing 25 of his side’s points through six penalties, a conversion and a try to seal the match in the dying seconds.

Steyn is currently the highest South African point-scorer in the 2013 Super Rugby season with 107 points, and third overall highest overall behind Gareth Anscombe of the Chiefs and the Brumbies' Christian Lealiifano.

His stellar performance with the boot made all the difference as the Bulls struggled to breach the Waratahs’ defensive line.

Bulls coach Frans Ludeke emphasised the crucial role Steyn played, not only in this match, but for the Bulls as a whole.

“Morne is a game breaker and he is worth a lot for us not just on the field of play and the way he executes but the energy and leadership that he brings to the backline,” Ludeke said.

“He is working hard and it is great when a player like that gets the reward between the four lines.”

The victory consolidated the Bulls’ position at the top of the South African Conference and third place on the combined Super Rugby log.
