Fans: No sympathy for KP

Cape Town - Sport24 readers don't feel any sympathy for Kevin Pietersen after the controversial England batsman was booted into early retirement.

Pietersen's controversial England career came to a dramatic end after officials announced on Tuesday they "unanimously" wanted to rebuild the side without him following their Ashes thrashing in Australia.

In a joint statement with the 33-year-old former England captain, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced they'd left the gifted batsman out of their squads for both the upcoming ODI of the West Indies and the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh and that this meant the end of his international career.

This is what Sport24 readers had to say about Pietersen's axing:

"Always supported SA chaps playing for other countries, maar kon net nie vat kry aan KP nie. Not his book or him leaving SA, but more his attitude. Snif snif." - Stuffel van der Woef

"He's going to have more serious issues about this i.e. being kicked out of the England side, most English players with his record leave as well loved heroes. He has been evicted without an opportunity to leave gracefully." - Jerry Forbes

"KP is a victim of the quota system. England has had their full quota of kaas from him. Could not have happened to a better chap." - Spike Porcupine

"Don't know what to say, your arrogance and the lies that you told the media all those years ago turned me against you,but you are a South African and one of the best batsman ever coming from our shores. So I feel a great deal of sadness for you, and the fact that we will probably never see you play on the big stage again because you were one of a kind, thanx for the memories KP!" - Edward Pretorius

"I don't like Kevin as a person, but he's a great cricketer. Bad decision." - Steve Bobs

"But that's just it, Steve - it is precisely because he is a 'personality' that he has been terminated. He has long been known to be a disruptive influence in the team, and sadly his talent is no longer a factor in the decision." - Philip Marchant

"Good for England! KP's been full of himself for a while now....am suprised they kept him until now. Go to Zim KP, you'll get the attention you crave there!!!!" - Azani Booi

"Englands inability to manage one of their best batsmen led to all of this. He is an idiot at best of times, but he still had plenty of runs to score for England. Presure is now on South Africa to find England a new middle order. ;-)" - Jaco Pieters

"Arrogant bugger but still a great cricketer.I would like to know,is he still eligible to play for SA?,I would love the fact if I he would decide to do so." - Donovan Hendricks

"Arrogant overbloated egotist. Good riddance. Caused disruption whenever he was involved."- John Christie

"I am sorry. He was a great cricketer, with attitude." - Peter Mansfield

"Well, it's not like they any better without him." - Jacques Potgieter

"At least they can start re-building. They are an unsettled side anyway. If KP stayed, he wouldn't have been able to win many matches on his own, but he would have kept sowing disharmony." - Skrap Nel

"As much as I agree that KP is arrogant, this seems more like a case of the ECB looking for a scapegoat to lay the blame on for their poor ashes showing. He is their best batsman and should have been worked with. As G. Boycott said "they don't want me but they want my runs." - Rob Whittaker

"Good, the game is bigger than KP, no honouring send off, explains it all." - Antoine Tredoux

"He is arrogant and DESERTED our country when he couldn't get his own way. Like a baby, tossed his toys out of his cot. He only sent sms's to these guys to keep in touch because he knew his time was coming to an end. Bloody chop!" - Priscilla Smith

"An excellent cricketer but an arrogant moron!! England Will struggle without KP for a while.. I guess Andy Flower (girl) got his revenge after all." - Jaycee Bezuidenhout
