There is a richness of rugby talent in the greater Western Cape second to none in S.A. the dominance of the union at all levels of competion over the last few seasons speak volumes to this abundance of talent.. So what is the logic with foreign players. H.M. has brought back Bakkkies and I expect him to defrost Matfield with his next “Brain wave” and once again force young talented players to seek their fortune overseas. Any foreign player playing in a local franchise denies a local talent the opportunity to compete at the highest level and gain that competive edge. This year’s northern hemisphere tour, once again displayed that edge we have over the northern hemisphere. But come the world cup that gap will close and they will be more competive. Locally it is in the Curry cup, Super15 and Rugby championship that we cultivate that edge. Now surely W.P. is killing the very goose that lays the golden egg with this move and the Stormer’s organization needs to account to the greater W.P. rugby community for this action or does the next try scored by a Stormer’s foreign player absolves them from accountability to the fans and home grown talent… It does leave a dent every young boy’s dream of ever pulling on a W.P. jersey
