I would say that we have so much talent in SA to develop that we dont need to fall back on "has been" players that has gone to make some money overseas in the French and English and Irish clubs at the end of their careers. It is such a waste to the development of the springbok team when we keep bringing back older ("experienced") players in stead of developing our much younger, stronger and more talented players that are here and committed to SA and the team. Morne is not on the level of a springbok flyhalf for a long time now, has maxed out his talent potential at abouth two years ago; there are three other stronger candidates that have not maxed out yet and is still improving and growing due to their higher talent level so why must he be considered because he is playing for a french club now? Because he has experience? The wrong experience Id say, because we need something quite different to Morne to lift our game to the level that the All Blacks have taken theirs, through consistently selecting the best players in their country, and somehow they play for the jersey more than for the money.
I know that rugby is a professional sport, but that doesn't mean that there is no pride left to "play for the jersey" or your country anymore. Guys going overseas obviously do it for the money and because they know they entered the decline phase of their career and the overseas clubs can still benefit from their good name (built up in the past) and experience because the level of rugby over there is lower, but the pay is better... Go figure...
Let's get some pride back in the national team. You can always see a players commitment to the team in the way he tackles, and it is always these so-called "experienced" (read over the hill, old) players coming back from overseas to play for the springboks who fails us typically in defense and maybe offer something in attack and kicking, but not much else. When will the selectors and coaching team wake up to this phenomenon and not allow a guy to play for his country who left the country for money?
Please select the local guys who is committed, talented, and best in his position in his country to play for his country. You will see a big change in commitment from the players.
