Bragging rights to Stormers

Cape Town - Stormers fans on Sport24 were overjoyed after their team won the South African Super Rugby Conference title after their 13-6 victory over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

But Stormers' foes doubted the worthiness of the Conference 'trophy' and said it would mean nothing unless they won the competition outright. They believed that a 'choke' was well and truly on for the Stormers ahead of the real deal...

Here's what Sport24 readers had to say about the Stormers winning the SA Super Rugby Conference:

"Win is a win" is the Stormer's credo." - MRT

"Stormers had an off day but they still won. Sign of a good team." - Mario Borchards

"The Stormers are doing an amazing job with half of their superstars unavailable!"
- Jono Qmann

"It was not pretty... but the conditions did not allow for open running rugby. We'll take the win, and the conference cup..." - Francois Visser

"Even Loftus' favourite son Naas said it: 'look at the scoreboard'." - Anwar Adinall

"Its funny how when Bulls played defensively and took the easy points it was called winning rugby, now that Province are doing it its called boring rugby." - Paul Sdow

"There are 2 types of rugby - winning rugby and losing rugby. The Stormers have won 13 out of 15 games in the competition, more than any other side."
- Annemee Britz

"A league cup proves you are the best over the duration of the competition and the most consistent." - Nibiru Sigijorge

"Most wins in the competition to date, second only to the Crusaders in points difference, fewest tries conceded: 18 (that's less than 2 a game). Winner of the SA conference. The Stormers only need a bonus point against the Rebels to be guaranteed a home semi. Any coach would have taken that if you offered it to them at the start of the competition." - Enrico Capazorio

"It will be good for the Stormers to score 4 tries on Saturday to gather momentum and confidence going into the semis, but if they don't start coming out their shell they will come undone against the Saders/Chiefs/Sharks." - Tom Tardis

"I doubt the Stormers have it in them to beat the Rebels by 4 tries." - TT

"They will choke again at Nuweland in the Semi!" - Robert Walter

"I just don't believe they will stop the other top teams - because that is how they play - they prevent losses and don't create wins." - Graemeltd

"This is not a conference cup competition, it is the Super 15 competition." - Branden Styles

"Should the Sharks or Bulls or Stormers reach the Super 15 final our chances of success are very slim. The Chiefs, Brumbies, and Crusaders are far superior to our teams." - Selma Botha

"The Stormers have won most of their games, but when faced with quality attacking teams they will struggle to grind out a win, and I don't believe that they will win the S15 with defence alone."
- GM

"If this is the top team in this country we are in real trouble!"
- Jacques du Plessis

"The Stormers played like a bunch of amateurs yesterday. Good luck against any of the top 6 in the playoffs!" - TT

"First top the log and then win the playoffs: then do that three times and you will own bragging rights." - GM

"They have not scored a four try bonus point this year. In this year's competition they have already played all the lowest placed sides. This has to be playing on the players' minds?"
- Sean Brady

"What do you think of the fact that the Stormers are now the lowest try-scoring team?" -  Jaan van Schaik

"It would be a good if 3 SA teams make the play-offs but I fear none of our teams will make the final." - Deon Louw

"Irrelevant, only the winners will be remembered. 17 years cup-less soon." - Johan Spies

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
