Whiting roles shared in Bahrain

Manama - The senior race management roles held by the late Charlie Whiting, who died unexpectedly before the Australian Grand Prix two weeks ago, are to be divided between two people at this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix.

As in Melbourne, Australian Michael Masi will be the race director and safety delegate at the Bahrain International Circuit at Sakhir with German Christian Bryll, the F1 event logistics manager, acting as permanent race starter.

Briton Whiting, 66, died in Melbourne from a gulmonary embolism three days before the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

Briton Colin Haywood, the race control systems manager, will act as Masi's deputy race director.

The FIA is considering its longer-term plan to replace the hugely-experienced Whiting, who held all three positions for many years.

Whiting was also a prominent figure away from Grand Prix race weekends, working on many of the ruling body International Motoring Federation (FIA)'s commissions.
